Pendulum wall clocks have been in existence for years now. They of course, like all clocks in the market vary in size, shape and color. The invention of the pendulum is credited to Christian Huygens in the sixteen hundreds. They are said to be the most accurate timekeepers. Pendulum wall clocks need to very stationary because any type of motion will actually affect the movement of the pendulum resulting to inaccuracies.  Therefore, for more mobile clocks, the pendulum cannot be used. Pendulum wall clocks not only keep perfect time, but they also have are aesthetic value.

Pendulum wall clocks have five parts. First would be a power source such as a weight or cord that can be turned into a pulley. Second is a gear train that increases the speed of the power source so the energy that is generated by the weight or cord can be utilized by the pendulum. The next part would be an escapement, which gives precise time pulses so that pendulum can move accordingly and swing for long periods of time.  This also allows the gear train to release and move forward at the precise time that the pendulum swings. The pendulum itself is the most important feature and the very essence of a pendulum wall clock.

Lastly, there is an indicator that will record the how frequently the escapement rotates and how much time has passed.  In traditional pendulum clocks, these are the hands that are on the face of the clock. For more complicated pendulum wall clocks, there are other important parts, such as a striking train that chimes every hour.  Also, there is the repeater dial that repeats the chimes when the hours change.

Pendulum wall clocks are for people that are very particular with precise and accurate time, as this is their defining feature. Most of the pendulum wall clocks are said to be status symbols. In some countries, they are the measurement of one’s wealth and culture.

Of course, pendulum wall clocks have already been modified so that they can fit the design and tastes of modern people’s homes. For example, depending on your décor, you can find a variety of fitting pendulum wall clocks. They are always very beautiful to look at and always manage to complement and enhance any ones home.  Additionally, they are often the focal point of any room and many people will most likely compliment or ask you about it.
